The main purpose of Chandrayaan-3 is to demonstrate Indias end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. It is the third mission in the Chandrayaan program, a series of lunar-exploration missions developed by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) . Chandrayaan-3 will consist of a lander and a rover similar to Chandrayaan-2, but it will not have an orbiter. Its propulsion module will behave like a communications relay satellite. The propulsion module will carry the lander and rover configuration until the spacecraft is in a 100km lunar orbit. The mission is aimed at the lunar south pole, a region with water ice, or frozen water, that could be a source of oxygen, fuel, and water. As of August 2023, two of the three mission objectives have been achieved, which are the demonstration of a safe and soft landing on the lunar surface.
