The concept of love languages refers to the way that a person prefers to express love to—and receive it from—a partner. According to Gary Chapman, there are five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch. Each love language describes an expression of love, and the key is discovering which love language you and your partner respond to the most, then regularly putting that into practice. It is important to know your love language and your partners, as it can help you avoid relationship problems and make your love known to someone with a different primary love language than yours. While people tend to express love via a primary and secondary love language, there may be more than just these five overarching themes.
