The Group of Twenty (G20) is an intergovernmental forum comprising 19 sovereign countries and the European Union (EU) . The G20 is the premier forum for international economic cooperation and plays an important role in shaping and strengthening global economic policy. The G20 was formed in 1999, in the wake of the Asian financial crisis, to unite finance ministers and central bankers from twenty of the world’s largest established and emerging economies. The motive of the G20 is to coordinate global policy on trade, health, climate, and other issues. The G20 has two main tracks of engagement: the Finance Track for finance ministers and central bank governors and the Sherpa Track. The G20 has six thematic priorities for Indias G20 presidency in 2023, which are agriculture, anti-corruption, culture, digital economy, disaster risk reduction, development, education, employment, environment and climate sustainability, energy transitions, health, trade and investment, and tourism. The G20 leaders focus on supporting the most vulnerable and fragile countries, notably in Africa, in their fight against the pandemic, employment for millions of workers who continue to face job and income loss, and active social protection for all, including those in the informal economy.
