The North Pole is the point in the Northern Hemisphere where the Earths axis of rotation meets its surface, and it is called the True North Pole to distinguish it from the Magnetic North Pole. It is also known as the Geographic North Pole, Terrestrial North Pole, or 90th Parallel North. The North Pole is the northernmost point on Earth, lying antipodally to the South Pole, and it defines geodetic latitude 90° North, as well as the direction of true north. The exact point of intersection of the Earth's axis and the Earth's surface, at any given moment, is called the "instantaneous pole," but because of the "wobble," this cannot be used as a definition of a fixed North Pole.

It is important to note that the North Pole is not a town in Alaska, as some may think. There is a town called North Pole in the central part of the U.S. state of Alaska, but it is nowhere near the real North Pole, which is in the middle of the Arctic Ocean, on water that is almost always covered with ice.
