The Gaza Strip is a narrow strip of land located between Israel and Egypt, on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It is approximately 41 kilometers (25 miles) long and 6 to 12 kilometers (3.7 to 7.5 miles) wide, with a total area of 365 square kilometers (141 square miles). The Gaza Strip has a high population density, with around 2 million Palestinians living in the area, making it one of the most densely populated areas in the world. The majority of Palestinians in Gaza are descendants of refugees who fled or were expelled from the area that became Israel after the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.
