Tupac Shakur adopted the name Makaveli, which is the name of Italian war strategist Niccolò Machiavelli, who pretended to fake his death, and when you rearrange the letters, “Makaveli” turns into “Am Alive K” . Tupac was inspired by Machiavellis political treatise The Prince, which presented dictatorial leadership ideals. Tupac released his fifth studio album, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, under the stage name of Makaveli, through Death Row Records, Makaveli Records, and Interscope Records. The album was recorded in seven days in August 1996 and was released on November 5, 1996, almost two months after Tupac's death. Tupac recorded the entire album in three days, and not all the songs recorded for the album made the final cut. Tupac spoke about his new alias and album in his last interview, saying, "The Italian’s I speak about were truly great men. And I find any great man, Black or White, I’m going to study them, learn them, so he can’t be great to me no more. Like, Machiavelli. My name is not Machiavelli. My name is Makaveli. I took it, that’s mine. He gave me that. And I don’t feel no guilt. All these motherf stole from us forever. I’m taking back what’s mine".
