The study of cells is called "cell biology" or "cytology." Both terms refer to the branch of biology that focuses on the structure, function, behavior, and life processes of cells, which are the fundamental units of life. Cytology also includes the study of cells in relation to medical diagnosis and disease. A scientist who studies cells is known as a cytologist or cell biologist.
