As of July 29, 2023, the world record for the equipped bench press is held by Jimmy Kolb, who successfully locked out 635.4 kg (1,401 lb) at the 2023 International Powerlifting Association (IPA) Tri-Star Bash in Elizabethton, TN. This is the heaviest bench press attempt ever and the single heaviest single lift in powerlifting history. Before this lift, Kolbs previous record was 612.5 kg (1,350 lb), which he set on February 4, 2023, at the 2023 IPA Hillbilly Havoc meet in Hurricane, WV. The world record for the raw bench press without any equipment (raw) was set by American Julius Maddox at 355 kg (782 lb) as of 2021.
