Transglutaminase (TG) is an enzyme that catalyzes the formation of an isopeptide bond between glutamine and lysine residues in proteins. There are different types of transglutaminases, and one of them is tissue transglutaminase (tTG). tTG is an enzyme that is involved in various biological processes, and it is also the target of antibodies in the blood of individuals with celiac disease. A tissue transglutaminase IgA (tTg-IgA) test is used to help doctors diagnose celiac disease by detecting the presence of antibodies that attack tTG. Celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder in which the immune system reacts to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, and oats, leading to damage in the intestines. The tTg-IgA test is one of several blood tests that may be used to help diagnose celiac disease
