UPI ID, or Unified Payments Interface Identity, is a unique identifier used in the UPI system for facilitating digital transactions
. It acts as a virtual payment address for online transactions and money transfers, allowing users to send and receive money seamlessly without sharing their bank account number or other personal details
. UPI IDs are typically created and managed through payment apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm
. The UPI ID is created using the following format: yourname@bankname or mmyy@ybl, where 'mmyy' can be your name, the first half of your email address, or even your mobile number, and '@ybl' is the initials of your bank
. UPI transactions using UPI IDs are safe and secure, as they do not require sharing confidential details like account numbers, credit card numbers, or debit card details
. To create a UPI ID, follow these steps:
- Download a payment app like Google Pay, PhonePe, or Paytm
- Enter your mobile number and complete the verification process
- Link your bank account to the payment app and verify your bank account number
- Create a new UPI ID on the app by following the app-specific instructions
Once you have a UPI ID, you can use it to send and receive money through the linked payment app
. To find your UPI ID, open the app, tap your photo, and then tap "Bank account" or "UPI IDs"
