VESA mounting, also known as the Flat Display Mounting Interface (FDMI) or VESA Mounting Interface Standard (MIS), is a standardized mounting format that makes it easier to mount flat panel monitors, televisions, and other displays on walls or movable arms. The VESA mount standard defines dimensions of the four-hole attachment interface on the back of displays and the screws used to fit those holes. Most sizes of VESA mount have four screw-holes arranged in a square on the mount, with matching tapped holes on the device. The horizontal and vertical distance between the screw centers are respectively labeled as A, and B. The original layout was a square of 100mm, and a 75 mm × 75 mm (3.0 in × 3.0 in) was defined for smaller displays. Later, variants were added for screens with as small as a 4 inches (10 cm) diagonal. The VESA mounting system is made up of different variants, depending on the display youre trying to mount. This accounts for all sorts of variables including the spacing between mounting holes, the maximum weight that a mount can hold, and the size of screws and type of thread used. All major TV and VESA TV mount manufacturers follow these standardized screw-hole positions to ensure that their products are compatible with one another.
