Vikalp is a scheme implemented by IRCTC for passengers of all train types and classes. The scheme is applicable to all waiting list passengers irrespective of the fare paid, and it allows passengers to opt for an alternate train or class in case their ticket remains fully waitlisted after charting. Under the Vikalp scheme, each passenger has an option of choosing up to 7 trains as an option or backup to increase their chances of getting a confirmed reservation. If a waitlisted ticket doesnt make it to the confirmed list, the Vikalp scheme helps passengers get a confirmed seat in an alternate train. However, it is important to note that only Vikalp opted passengers who booked in waiting and remain fully waitlisted after charting will be considered for allotment in the alternate train.
