Villi are finger-like projections that originate from the walls of the small intestine. They are richly supplied with blood vessels and increase the surface area for absorption of nutrients. The villi are present in the inner lining of the small intestine. A network of capillaries and a big lymph vessel called the lacteal supply the villi. The function of the villi is to absorb nutrients by increasing the surface area for absorption.
