"Walk with Amal" is a performance art project called "The Walk" that began in July 2021 and features a 3.5-meter-tall puppet named Little Amal. Little Amal represents a 10-year-old Syrian refugee girl who travels alone across Europe to find her mother, and her journey is meant to draw attention to the plight of refugee children fleeing war, violence, and persecution. The project aims to raise awareness and compassion for the fate of refugee children, often left without their parents. Little Amal has traveled over 9,000km to 94 towns and cities in 14 countries and has been welcomed by more than a million people on the street, including hundreds of artists and civil society and faith leaders, as well as by tens of millions online. The project has been met with mixed responses, with some areas showing racist or violent reactions, but in most towns, the performance was a joyful occasion. In September 2023, Little Amal will arrive in Trondheim, Norway, during the Olavsfest opening ceremony and participate in a number of events throughout the festival week.
