Wax is a diverse class of organic compounds that are lipophilic, malleable solids near ambient temperatures. They include higher alkanes and lipids, typically with melting points above about 40 °C (104 °F), melting to give low viscosity liquids. Waxes are insoluble in water but soluble in nonpolar organic solvents such as hexane, benzene, and chloroform. Natural waxes of different types are produced by plants and animals and occur in petroleum. Waxes are synthesized by many plants and animals and are used for various purposes such as water repellency, polishing, and protection.
Marijuana wax, also known as cannabis wax, THC wax, or simply wax, is a highly potent extraction of cannabinoids such as THC and CBD as well as flavorful compounds such as terpenes and flavonoids. It is a concentrated form of marijuana that is typically the color of honey with a consistency closer to Jello or butter. One hit of wax, a minuscule amount (about the size of the head of a pin), is supposedly equal to 1-2 full marijuana joints.
