The World Wide Web (WWW or Web) is a system of interconnected public webpages accessible through the Internet. It is not the same as the Internet, but rather one of many applications built on top of it. The Web consists of several components, including the HTTP protocol, which governs data transfer between a server and a client, and HTML (hypertext markup language), which is the most common format for publishing web documents. The Web is based on several different technologies, including web browsers, HTML, and HTTP. Web browsers are programs that display text, data, pictures, animation, and video on the Internet. Hyperlinked resources on the Web can be accessed using software interfaces provided by web browsers. The Web provides a communication platform for users to retrieve and exchange information over the Internet. Unlike a book, where we move from one page to another in a sequence, on the Web, we follow a web of hypertext links to visit a web page and from that web page to move to other web pages.
