Setting Job Priorities for Trapping and Skinning Rabbits in Bellwright
To get your villagers to set traps and skin rabbits at a trapper’s camp, assign at least one worker a high “Hunting” priority (1–2) and ensure you have a steady supply of small traps and bait in storage. Then, check that the trapper’s camp has storage access, fuel (if required), and a clear output path for meat and pelts.
How Job Priorities Work
Bellwright uses a 1–9 priority scale for worker jobs:
- 1 = highest priority (done first)
- 9 = lowest priority (done last)
- X/disabled = the villager will not do that job at all.
If nobody is hunting or repairing traps, it’s almost always a priorities + logistics issue, not a bug.
Step‑by‑Step: Automate Rabbit Trapping
- Place traps yourself first
- Craft small traps at a Simple Workbench or Toolmaker.
- Right‑click a trap in your inventory, place it in a dense forest area, and add bait (berries, mushrooms, etc.). Activated traps glow when they’ve caught something.
- Stock traps and bait in shared storage
- Add “Small Trap” to your workbench/toolmaker production queue on “top up” so villagers keep crafting them.
- Make sure berries/mushrooms and other baits are in a chest your trapper can access. Villagers won’t set or rebait traps if they can’t fetch materials.
- Assign Hunting as a top priority
- Open Population , select a villager set as Worker.
- Go to the Job Priorities tab.
- Set Hunting to 1 (or 2 if you also want them to focus on cooking or delivery). At least one person must have Hunting at a high priority for automated trapping to work.
- Link the trapper’s camp to storage
- Open the trapper’s camp management panel.
- Ensure it can pull traps and bait from storage and deposit rabbit meat and pelts there.
- Optionally filter which bait types the camp uses if you’re managing multiple food sources.

Balance related jobs
Typical early‑game setup for a small settlement:- 1 villager: Hunting 1 , Cooking 3–4, Delivery 2–3
- 1 villager: Cooking 1–2 , Delivery 2, Crafting 3
- 1 villager: Delivery 1–2 , Crafting/Hunting 3–5 This avoids a situation where everyone is trying to cook but no one is maintaining traps or moving goods.
If Rabbits Aren’t Being Skinned or Traps Repaired
Check these in order:
- At least one worker has Hunting enabled and set to 1–2.
- The trapper’s camp has traps and bait available in connected storage.
- There’s free space in storage for rabbit meat and pelts.
- No other job family (e.g., farming, construction) is starving the hunter of time because everything else is also priority 1.
Once those boxes are ticked, your villagers will automatically check traps, collect carcasses, skin rabbits, and restock bait as long as the supply chain holds.
