Mark Moseley, a kicker for the Washington Redskins (now known as the Washington Commanders), won the NFL MVP award in 1982, becoming the first and only kicker to ever receive the award. Moseley had a historic season, breaking the NFL record for most consecutive field goals without a miss and hitting a game-winning field goal through gusty snowfall to clinch the NFC East. He was also known for his clutch field goals and helped the Redskins win Super Bowl 17 over the Miami Dolphins. Moseley was nominated as an MVP finalist, and he was shocked to hear that he had been nominated, as no kicker had ever been nominated, much less won the award. In the end, Moseley won the award, beating out other finalists such as Dan Fouts and Marcus Allen. Moseley remains the only full-time kicker to win The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable Player award.
