James Van Der Beek was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. He first noticed changes in his bowel movements in the summer of 2023, which led to a colonoscopy that confirmed the diagnosis. Despite being in excellent health and an active lifestyle prior to diagnosis, he was surprised by the cancer. He has been privately managing his treatment with the support of his family and has been open about raising awareness for colorectal cancer screening. His prognosis is cautiously optimistic with localized stage 3 colorectal cancer having a high five-year survival rate according to cancer statistics. He continues to work and advocate for cancer awareness while undergoing treatment.
