The official language of Colombia is Spanish, which is spoken by more than 99% of the population. Colombian Spanish is unique and varies from traditional Spanish spoken in other Spanish-speaking countries with very clear pronunciation. Various regions of Colombia also have their own dialect of Spanish. In addition to Spanish, there are several other languages spoken in Colombia. The country has 65 Amerindian languages, two Creole languages, and the Romani language spoken by indigenous peoples of Colombia. English has official status in the San Andrés, Providencia, and Santa Catalina Islands.
