Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar recently sparked controversy with his remarks on the importance of womens education in controlling the population. He stated that an educated woman knows how to restrain her husband during sexual intercourse, which, according to him, leads to a decrease in the number of births. These comments were met with widespread condemnation, with many criticizing them as vulgar, indecent, misogynistic, and patriarchal.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) and opposition parties demanded an apology from Nitish Kumar for his remarks, which they deemed derogatory and regressive. The BJP, in particular, called for his resignation, with one of its national spokespersons accusing him of using vulgar and indecent language in the assembly.
In response to the backlash, Nitish Kumar issued an apology, stating that he takes back his words. However, the controversy surrounding his comments has continued to escalate, with strong criticism from various quarters.
