The United States of America is bordered by three major bodies of water: the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, and the Gulf of Mexico to the southeast. The states of Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California, and Hawaii border the Pacific Ocean. The continental United States are bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, on the southeast by the Gulf of Mexico, and on the west by the Pacific Ocean. Alaska lies amidst several bodies of water: on the north are the Beaufort Sea and the Arctic Ocean; on the west are the Chukchi Sea, the Bering Strait, and the Bering Sea; and on the south is the Gulf of Alaska. The Great Lakes, which are shared with Canada, also form part of the border between the two countries.
