There are two quests in Pokemon Go that involve choosing a path: "Detective Pikachu Returns" and "A Paldean Adventure". Here are the steps for each quest and the options for choosing a path:
Detective Pikachu Returns
- Spin 5 PokéStops or gyms (Pikachu [Detective] encounter)
- Complete 3 Field Research tasks (Pikachu [Detective] encounter)
- Complete 6 Field Research tasks (Pikachu [Detective] encounter)
- Explore 1 km (Pikachu [Detective] encounter)
- Earn a candy exploring with your buddy (Pikachu [Detective] encounter)
After completing the above steps, you will be prompted with a puzzle and asked to choose between Snivy, Rowlet, or Sudowoodo. No matter which answer you pick, the step two task will be the same, but only the correct answer will reward you with an extra Pikachu (Detective) encounter. If you select the wrong answer, you’ll get 25 XP instead.
A Paldean Adventure
- Catch 3 Pokémon (3 Poké Balls)
- Take a snapshot of a wild Pokémon (300 Stardust)
After completing the above steps, you will choose a path between Fuecoco, Sprigatito, or Quaxly. The choice determines which Pokémon you will encounter at the end of step 2, which you need to evolve in steps 3 and 4. The other consideration beyond the above is that whichever you choose in this research step will have a higher-than-average set of stats, with an “IV floor” of 10/10/10 (out of a possible max of 15/15/15) .
In both quests, the choice of path is not critical and depends on personal preference.
