The plane that hit the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, was American Airlines Flight 77. It was a Boeing 757-200 aircraft hijacked by five al-Qaeda terrorists. The hijacker piloted the plane into the west side of the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m., causing significant damage and a large fire. All 64 people on board the flight and 125 people inside the Pentagon were killed as a result of the crash and subsequent collapse of part of the building
