what r2d2 stands for

R2-D2 is a character from the Star Wars franchise. Although the name R2-D2 doesnt stand for anything in particular in the Star Wars universe, it was inspired by a reel and dialogue number from George Lucass debut movie THX 1138. While working on THX 1138, Lucas and Walter Murch, who was mixing the film, were looking for "Reel 2, Dialogue 2," and someone yelled out "get R2D2." Lucas and Murch loved the name so much that they decided it was a good name for something, and they kept playing with it. Lucas put it down in his notebook, and thats where it came from.
