Milford Sound is located in the Fiordland region of New Zealand, at the northern end of Fiordland National Park on the South Island. It is an inlet (fiord) that opens to the Tasman Sea and is commonly accessed via State Highway 94 from Te Anau or Queenstown, with the surrounding area incorporating Piopiotahi (its Māori name) and the Milford Sound Marine Reserve. The area is among New Zealand’s best-known natural destinations and is part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Site.
