The majority of Palestinians are Muslim, with approximately 98% identifying as Sunni Muslims. Christianity is the main minority religion, with roughly 6% of the Palestinian population being Christian. Other religious communities, including Druze and Samaritans, are also present in Palestine, but in much smaller numbers. The Israeli government requires all residents in the Palestinian Territories to declare a religion on an identification card issued by them. The conflict between Israel and Palestine has religious factors pertinent to Islam and Judaism, including the sanctity of holy sites and the apocalyptic narratives of both religions, which are detrimental to any potential for lasting peace between the two sides.
