what religion refuses blood transfusions

Jehovahs Witnesses refuse blood transfusions based on their religious beliefs. They believe that the Bible prohibits Christians from accepting blood transfusions, and that abstaining from blood is a non-negotiable religious stand. They refuse transfusions of whole blood or its four primary components: red cells, white cells, platelets, and plasma. Even in emergency situations, Jehovah's Witnesses will not accept blood transfusions, as they believe that those who respect life as a gift from God do not try to sustain life by taking in blood. However, a minority of Jehovah's Witnesses do not agree that the Bible prohibits blood transfusions and will accept them. Some Jehovah's Witnesses may also believe that it is acceptable to receive blood plasma fractions or the reinfusion of their own blood. In some cases, the refusal of blood transfusions by Jehovah's Witnesses has led to expulsion from and ostracization by their religious community.
