To remove gel nail polish, you will need the following supplies:
- Petroleum jelly
- Cotton balls or strips
- Scissors
- Acetone (100%)
- Plastic food wrap
- Washcloth
- Towel
Here are the steps to remove gel nail polish using acetone and plastic food wrap:
- Apply petroleum jelly to the skin around your nails to protect it from the drying effects of acetone.
- Cut the plastic food wrap into small squares that are big enough to wrap around the tip of each finger.
- Soak a cotton ball or cotton pad in acetone.
- Place the acetone-soaked cotton ball or pad on your nail bed and wrap the plastic food wrap around your finger to hold it in place.
- Repeat this process for all your fingers.
- Leave the acetone-soaked cotton balls or pads on your nails for about 10 minutes to allow the gel nail polish to loosen.
- After 10 minutes, remove the plastic food wrap and gently wipe away the gel nail polish with a washcloth.
- If there is any remaining gel nail polish, you can use a nail file to gently buff it off.
- Once all the gel nail polish is removed, wash your hands and apply a moisturizing nail and cuticle oil to nourish your nails.
