To remove gel nail polish, you will need the following supplies:

  • Petroleum jelly
  • Cotton balls or strips
  • Scissors
  • Acetone (100%)
  • Plastic food wrap
  • Washcloth
  • Towel

Here are the steps to remove gel nail polish using acetone and plastic food wrap:

  1. Apply petroleum jelly to the skin around your nails to protect it from the drying effects of acetone.
  2. Cut the plastic food wrap into small squares that are big enough to wrap around the tip of each finger.
  3. Soak a cotton ball or cotton pad in acetone.
  4. Place the acetone-soaked cotton ball or pad on your nail bed and wrap the plastic food wrap around your finger to hold it in place.
  5. Repeat this process for all your fingers.
  6. Leave the acetone-soaked cotton balls or pads on your nails for about 10 minutes to allow the gel nail polish to loosen.
  7. After 10 minutes, remove the plastic food wrap and gently wipe away the gel nail polish with a washcloth.
  8. If there is any remaining gel nail polish, you can use a nail file to gently buff it off.
  9. Once all the gel nail polish is removed, wash your hands and apply a moisturizing nail and cuticle oil to nourish your nails.
