Powerball is a popular lottery game that can be played in 45 states across the United States, as well as in Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The only states that do not participate in Powerball are Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. In the participating states, players can purchase tickets from licensed retailers or play online, and the game is played by selecting five numbers from a set of 69 white balls and 26 red “Powerballs” . Drawings are held every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. EST, and the winning numbers are selected from two identical machines, one containing the white balls and the other providing the red balls. The minimum age to play Powerball is 18, except in Nebraska (19), and Arizona, Iowa, Louisiana, and Mississippi (21) .
