She found several things about the book strange:
- The words in the book were printed and stood still instead of moving like words on a screen, which she was used to seeing on her telebook. The printed words did not change position or move as digital text did.
- The pages of the book were yellow and crinkly, unlike the flat, glowing screen she was familiar with.
- When she turned back to a page, the words on the page remained exactly the same as when she first read them, unlike anything on a screen which might change.
- The idea that someone would write a book about schools was also strange to her.
These aspects were odd to her because she came from a future where books were only electronic and displayed on screens rather than printed on paper.
