To feed a baby pigeon, you can use baby bird formula from a pet store, which should be diluted with water and gradually thickened over the first week until its about 2 parts water to each part formula. You can also use human baby cereal, cream of wheat, grits, or soaked dry puppy or cat food in water until it is soft and puffy. Additionally, defrosted peas or corn can be fed to older babies, served warm and popped into their beaks one at a time. Its important to warm the bird before feeding it, as baby pigeons cannot digest food properly when they are cold. The food should be warm when fed to the baby, and its recommended to use a syringe without a needle for feeding. Feeding should be done 4 times a day for the first week of the baby pigeons life.
Its important to note that baby pigeons should not be given dairy milk, as they cannot digest it. Additionally, pale vegetables with a high water composition, such as iceberg or head lettuce and celery, offer very little nutritional value and should not be offered. Its also important to avoid feeding them worms and to ensure that the food is at the correct temperature, as heating food in a microwave can leave scalding pockets of heat that can burn the crop.
