It is important to note that urgent payments from Centrelink are only available in exceptional and unforeseen circumstances, and only if the recipient is in severe financial hardship. Here are some steps to follow to request an urgent payment:
- Sign in to myGov and go to Centrelink.
- Select Payments and Claims from the menu, then Claims, then Make a claim.
- Select Crisis Payments.
- Explain your situation and provide evidence of your financial hardship due to exceptional and unforeseen circumstances.
- Centrelink will assess your claim and decide whether to grant you an urgent payment.
It is important to note that urgent payments result in a lower subsequent payment on the recipients usual payment delivery day. Additionally, a person can only receive a maximum of 2 urgent payments in any 12-month period. If you are not eligible for an urgent payment, there may be other forms of assistance available, such as advance payments or special benefits.
