A battery stores chemical energy. Within a battery, one or more electrochemical cells contain chemicals that undergo a chemical reaction, creating a flow of electrons in a circuit. This flow of electrons provides the electric current required to do work. When a battery is charged, the process reverses, and the batterys recharging builds the chemical molecules back up, which is the storing of energy. Later, the energy stored in the chemicals is converted to electrical energy for use. Therefore, a battery stores energy in the form of chemical potential energy.
