Plate A is an oceanic plate because it is relatively thinner compared to Plate B. Oceanic plates are generally thinner and denser than continental plates. Plate B is a continental plate because it is thicker and floats higher than the oceanic plate. Continental plates have greater thickness and consist mainly of less dense granitic rocks, which makes them float higher on the mantle compared to oceanic plates that are composed mostly of denser basaltic rocks
