Charlie Kirk was shot with a high-powered bolt-action rifle, specifically identified in reports as an older model imported Mauser .30-06 caliber bolt- action rifle. The rifle was found wrapped in a towel in a wooded area near the Utah Valley University campus where the shooting occurred. The shot that killed Kirk was fired from a rooftop approximately 175 yards away from him during an event he was attending. Investigators recovered the rifle, which had a spent cartridge chambered and three unspent cartridges with some unusual markings on them, and it is currently under forensic analysis by the FBI.
