Led Zeppelin’s original name was the New Yardbirds. This was the provisional name Jimmy Page used when forming the group after the Yardbirds disbanded, before they settled on the Led Zeppelin moniker. The name Led Zeppelin is widely associated with a remark attributed to Keith Moon of The Who, who supposedly suggested a band with a “lead balloon” vibe, which they adapted to “Led Zeppelin” for American audiences.
