The Nithari Kand, also known as the Nithari serial murders, was a gruesome case of sexual abuse, murder, cannibalism, and attempted necrophilia that occurred in Nithari village, Uttar Pradesh, India between 2005 and 2006. The case involved the disappearance of children and teenagers from the Nithari village, and the investigation ultimately led to the discovery of the bungalow of businessman Moninder Singh Pandher and his servant Surinder Koli, who were arrested as the prime suspects. The case grabbed headlines in the media due to its brutal and rare nature of crimes. Koli later confessed to killing six children and a 20-year-old woman referred to as "Payal" after sexually assaulting them. The situation at Nithari was aggravated as an angry mob of villagers fought with police, then pelting stones at each other, just outside the residence of the accused. The case has been referred to as the "Nithari killings". Pandher and Koli were convicted in 2009 and were recently released from jail.
