Danny Masterson was found guilty of two counts of rape in his first trial, and the jury was unable to reach a verdict on the other charges. The evidence against Masterson included testimony from three women who claimed he sexually assaulted them at his Hollywood home between 2001 and 2003. One of the women, identified as Jane Doe No. 2, testified that Masterson violently raped her despite her pleas for him to stop.
During the trial, prosecutors also argued that Masterson had drugged his accusers before assaulting them. The women were allowed to testify about their feelings that the Church of Scientology had suppressed them, as a judge ruled in their favor on this matter. Mastersons status as a Scientologist was also brought up during the trial, but the jury did not consider it in their decision.
The actor had denied the allegations, claiming that any sexual encounters he had were consensual. However, the jury found enough credible evidence to convict him of raping two of the women who had accused him. Masterson now faces up to 30 years to life in state prison, with his sentencing scheduled for August 4.
