The result of the Voice referendum in Australia was a majority "no" vote nationally and in all states. The referendum was held on October 14, 2023, and voters were asked if they approved an alteration to the Australian Constitution that would recognize Indigenous Australians in the document through prescribing a body called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. The referendum failed to get either of the two majorities in favor that were both required for the Constitution to be changed. The result was described as heartbreaking by Uncle Rodney Dillon, Palawa Elder and Amnesty International Australia First Nations Rights spokesperson, who said that the efforts for an Indigenous Voice to Parliament in Australia spanned decades of tireless campaigning from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples.
