Corgis were originally bred to herd cattle, sheep, and horses. They were used as all-around farm dogs and guardians of the farm. Corgis are known for their intelligence, high energy, and herding instincts, which make them excellent at canine events such as agility, obedience, tracking, herding, and conformation. Although they are no longer used for herding cattle, they are still expert herders and many Pembrokes even compete in AKC Herding competitions. Today, Corgis mainly serve as companion and show dogs, and they are popular as family pets due to their intelligence and responsiveness to their owners.
