Babies begin to develop the ability to regulate their body temperature more effectively around the age of six months. By this time, their thermoregulatory system starts to improve, making their bodies better equipped to adjust to temperature changes. However, full adaptation to external temperature conditions typically occurs between 9 to 12 months. Some studies suggest that babies really regulate their temperature well by around 2 years old, but significant development happens in the first year. Newborns and very young infants have immature systems and rely heavily on external factors like clothing and environmental temperature to maintain their body heat.
