Ace Frehley, the founding lead guitarist of KISS, initially left the band in 1981, although he was still involved in promotional appearances late into 1982. He decided to leave because he felt more creatively fulfilled pursuing a solo career and was tired of the band's makeup routine, which sometimes caused him allergic reactions. Frehley has stated he quit the band rather than being fired, despite claims by Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons that he was fired. He later rejoined KISS in 1996 for a reunion but left again in 2002 after completing the band's farewell tour. So, his first departure was in 1981/1982, and his final time leaving was in 2002.
