The Eden Project officially opened its doors to the public on March 17, 2001. The project began with initial designs drawn in 1996, construction started in 1998, and the site was developed in a disused china clay quarry in Cornwall, UK. The Eden Project was one of the UK's Landmark Millennium Projects and involved innovative biomes showcasing important plants from around the world.
