Facebook started on February 4, 2004. It was launched by Mark Zuckerberg and his college roommates at Harvard University originally under the name "TheFacebook" and was initially limited to Harvard students. It allowed students to post photographs and personal information and quickly expanded to other universities before opening to the general public in 2006.
