Giving Tuesday started in 2012, with the first observance on November 27, 2012.
Origin
Giving Tuesday was created in 2012 as a day encouraging people to do good and to counterbalance the consumer focus of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It was initiated at New York’s 92nd Street Y and its Belfer Center for Innovation & Social Impact, with early support and partnership from organizations such as the United Nations Foundation.
When it occurs each year
The day takes place annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States, making it fall between November 27 and December 3 depending on the year. From its start as the #GivingTuesday hashtag in 2012, it has grown into a global generosity movement observed on that post-Thanksgiving Tuesday worldwide.
