Lollapalooza originally started as a touring event in 1991 as a farewell tour by the band Jane's Addiction. It became a permanent festival held in Chicago beginning in 2005. Before settling permanently in Chicago, Lollapalooza was a multi-city tour across North America from its inception through 1997 and then briefly revived in tours until 2004. The first Lollapalooza festival held in Chicago as a permanent home took place in 2005 at Grant Park. Since then, it has grown into an annual multi-day music festival and one of the largest music festivals in the world.
