The anime series One Piece first came out on October 20, 1999, airing on Fuji Television in Japan. This marked the beginning of the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and his crew as they searched for the ultimate treasure called "One Piece" to become the King of the Pirates.
The original manga by Eiichiro Oda started earlier, being serialized since July 1997, but the anime adaptation premiered on the above date.
