Osama bin Laden was caught and killed by U.S. Navy SEALs on May 2, 2011, during a raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan. The operation was called Operation Neptune Spear and took place in the pre-dawn hours when SEAL Team 6 raided the compound where bin Laden was hiding. The raid lasted about 40 minutes, resulting in bin Laden's death along with several others at the compound. His body was later taken to Afghanistan for identification and then buried at sea.
