when did pope francis get elected

Pope Francis was elected on March 13, 2013. He was chosen on the fifth ballot of the 2013 papal conclave following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI. After his election, he took the papal name Francis, in honor of Saint Francis of Assisi.
